THE SHORTAGE OF VITAL MEDICAL  EQUIPMENT AND MEDICINES :
WHAT IS THE EUROPEAN UNION DOING?

by Nathalie De Grove-Valdeyron p. 334
The lack of binding legal instruments available to the Union has shown the limits of
the effectiveness of its action in the face of the shortage of vital medical equipment
and medicines. This article describes the various measures passed in the context of
the Covid-19 crisis and the adaptability shown by the Union, in the framework of
the support competence assigned to it by the Treaty, in order to try to delay and limit
the shortage. One solution is imperative: strengthening the Union’s competence with
regard to common health security issues in order to ensure the availability of medicines
and medical devices.
